GO WILD FOR YOUR HEALTH RETREATS…

AS FEATURED IN

THE GUARDIAN:-& THE TIMES

Another of our slightly shorter retreats, spread over 4 days on the mystical Cornwall coast., and the key aim is for you to nurture your nervous system, to enjoy good health and find the tools to create enduring well-being.

Run by a true partnership team, Polly & Shaun , the retreats inspire you to spark changes to recalibrate your lifestyle choices, by a carefully chosen health menu, which is designed to fortify challenging hikes on coastal paths and across amazing vistas of Dartmoor, as well as cleansing breathwork and limbering yoga. Fun is a key ingredient of this retreat, with paddleboarding, kayaking and wild swimming outside the door. The Cornish Retreat, ERTH BARTON, is set within its own scenic peninsula and surrounded by some of the best growers of organic produce, and foodie chefs, who lean in and contribute incredible recipes, high on taste, and low on processed ingredients.

The promise here is that you you will have a full immersion into nature, whilst living in stylish and comfortable interiors of a Jacobean Manor House situated on a peninsula almost surrounded by the tidal River Lynher (report on importance of being in blue spaces -HERE.). Its a peaceful retreat for wildlife and busy people. The team at Department of Wellbeing are down to earth, and all highly qualified in their area of expertise.

Polly & Shaun have run retreats daily for 16 years, and understand. the alchemical balance, that mindset, fun and movement play, in achieving and sustaining your greatest potential for wellbeing and longevity. The retreats are curated to include a high dose of inspiration, as the land at base is farmed using regenerative farming techniques, and there is a nod to us all respecting mother nature and its awesome offerings, as we all adventure under her spell.

This is more than a retreat, this is a recalibration of your lifestyle and is designed to individually support you as you move towards your highest self.

I was blown away by the beauty of the Erth Retreat and the impact of a few days away immersed in nature. My heart rate dropped, my sleep improved, my steps increased and my body felt nourished. The food was awesome, the group supportive, the activities, which were optional, were well planned and I slowed down in the quiet. Until I return, and I intend to...
— Adele K Go Wild Midsummer 2023
I so valued my time at Erth, thankful I made the time to do the retreat as been life affirming, Reminded what makes me tick. Plus being immersed in nature which I thrive on yet never get around to doing enough. Heartfelt thanks to you both for being generous with your time and energy, plus those hearty, life affirming conversations with invigorating company- we made a good crew!
— Sam M - Go Wild Erth May 2023
When I first arrived at Erth Retreat, I was completely in awe of the setting. It really is incredibly beautiful. A lovely old house - beautifully decorated with huge rooms, and the most divine views with water all around. It is so tranquil with just bird song and cows lowing- completely idyllic...The food was just amazing - full of goodness, colour and taste. I miss that so much already and the activities were a great mix, and a few firsts for me too.
I could not have asked for anything more. It was a little dream like! I am now really missing everybody and the beautiful place and am about to book for next year. I think this will be my May refresher!
— Penny R - Go Wild Erth May 23
Thanks for this life changing experience
— Laura C - Go Wild Erth May 23
I had such a wonderful time. I was hoping it would be exactly what I needed, and it was so much more - you made it very special, and such a laugh
— Laura F - May 2022

LOCATION:

Your home for your retreat is Erth Barton. A Jacobean House of historical mystery, its built of stone and granite with mullion windows, on the grounds there is even a 12th Century chapel, within a courtyard setting and in the neighbouring paddocks, we have a yurt, a cabin and a couple of shepherds huts.

Erth Barton sits in an exciting area of Cornwall, where the 4 mile stretch of beach at Whitsand Bay is just a short drive away. Twenty minutes to the east is Dartmoor National Park, and frames the horizon here at Erth. Cornish coastal towns of Cawsand & Kingsand sit elegantly on Rame Head (AONB) peninsula a beautiful landscape of tidal creeks and sandy beaches - known as Cornwall’s forgotten south east corner….

Erth Barton is located just over the border in Cornwall, sitting on its own peninsula - there are no public footpaths here, only private walks - the paths around the peninsula are surrounded by ancient oaks, ferns , blackberry bushes, lichen and moss. Did you know lichen grows in the cleanest of air ?

The River Lynher snakes its way through an Oak woodland, fringing the green tidal water which swallows the land as the tide moves the volume of water in and out daily. Mesmerising. There are a few secret beaches to swim the Lynher from and if lucky, swimming on a warm night, you will see the phosphorescence as your hands move through the water.

This place is wild.

The invitation here is to deepen your connection with Nature and the luxury here is to breathe clear air and experience clean water.  Lichen cover many of the trees and woodland, and hang from branches as if suspended in air.

The benefits of blue spaces on our wellbeing are HERE , and for a few days you will live that life.

The house sits on land farmed using regenerative farming, so it’s safe to breath deeply and swim freely in the knowledge that all humans are on the peninsula are working in harmony with Mother nature.  The wildlife is astounding, deer roam here, and make sure you bring binoculars to enjoy the birdlife, such as falcons, hawks, herons, egrets, Canada geese, skylarks on top of the hill and swallows that live in the barns here.

There is huge drive to keep this land wild, as we endeavour to live plastic free and work to reduce our consumables, using sensitive sustainability which showcases the hyper-local spirit of this area of Cornwall.  There are plans to grow food here on site and as the neighbours are soil experts, Erth Farmer, left overs are composted so that little has to leave site.

Intimate and independently run, with 6 rooms in the main house, all furnished differently with a personal touch from Polly & Shaun, who are friendly and intuitive hosts, and behind the huge success of Tilton House in Sussex, a retreat venue they ran in Bloomsbury Country for 16 years.  They believe, modern luxury is about living in harmony with the natural surroundings.  Of course you can expect the usual high-thread count, low lighting, soft furnishings, luxurious and creative details that you would expect from two former film makers,  furnishing the house with eco conscience and sustainable materials and antiques, but the real luxury here is the piece of mind, a lack of road noise, or flight paths and everything poised intentionally for your wellbeing.

Fabulous memories
— Gaynor - Go Wild July 2022

2023 PROGRAMME

The Go WILD programme has been loved by both clients and the press since 2019, when we first gathered our group of experts to teach our wellbeing community, the importance of sustaining a good level of health and fitness which has evolved and become central to our lives and wellness.

We offer strategic systems of support to optimise your wellbeing. It starts the moment you book on with a health and lifestyle questionnaire which goes to our team of experts to take a deep dive into your schedule and where we can find the support both nutritionally with your daily movement, rest and opportunity for resourcefulness.

On arrival, we follow a schedule of events held mainly in nature to reset body and mind and recalibrate your nutritional intake by offering delicious menus to fortify your busy lifestyle. When you leave we offer a personalised plan for you and ensure we reconnect with you to coach you through any bumps in the road.

Different beliefs and values that we have accrued along the way may have resulted in unconscious habits. Taking the opportunity to shine a light on these will cleanse both mind and body so we can strengthen our resolve and our WHY to achieve better results daily more aligned with our goals.. For example, creating awareness around our own mental and physical body rhythm and how best we can use certain times of the day to either stimulate movement or receive nurturing calm.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The gateway to our Go WILD retreats is always through the breath, and so after our arrival talk we will enjoy a breath work session and how best to integrate the practice over the following few days and various activities. We hope to expand your energy levels with grounding long hikes either over Dartmoor, or along the South West Coastal Path, in Cornwall. Being immersed in nature and wild landscapes will offer plenty of uplift and inspiration to become both stimulated and nurtured, and for minds and bodies to understand the difference in these opposing feelings. This requires a new awareness of discipline and clarity, which we will also learn to recognise during our programme.

Thank you for a wonderful time, much needed energy, rest, love and laughter - and space to share. A brilliantly organised few days & activities - and oh the goodie bag !
— Jolene - Go Wild May 2022

OUR TRIBE:-

Yogi - Emma Forbes

Emmas’ style of yoga reflects her passion for holistic wellbeing; she aims to offer insight into the way yoga and breath can be transformational: an invitation to discover natural and easeful movement.  Emma believes in down to earth guidance with an emphasis on the practitioner being led by their body – by listening in and moving mindfully we open up space in our bodies and minds, nurturing a vital balance between strength and flexibility, energy and relaxation. Influenced by Vanda Scaravelli Emmas’ teachings have also evolved from : ‘learn how to listen to your body, going with it and not against it, avoiding all effort or strain’.

Paddleboarding Coach - Mel Bennett

Mel is an experienced Paddleboarder and a qualified WSA instructor, and holds the SLSGB Surf Coach Safety and Rescue Award.  All of our sessions take place directly from ERTH - straight into the River. We paddle along the River Lynher, one of the Top Ten Secret SUP spots in Cornwall. Mels sessions last around 2 hours, and end with a few tentative yoga poses and ‘grounding’ exercises

Dartmoor Guide - Dartmoor Paul - Paul Rendall

Fascinated by the moor’s industrial archaeology and its wildlife explorations Pauls knowledge has provided him with a scope of understanding of the moor that only a few possess.

Paul tours last around 4.5hours and cover 10km - we explore the flora and fauna of Dartmoor, and an insight into the history of land prior to becoming a National Park.

“The walk on Dartmoor with ‘Dartmoor Paul’ as our guide was gorgeous and Paul a wealth of knowledge of history and wildlife in the area.  He was gentle and amusing and we all got so much from that walk - and the wild swim was real surprise !” - Penny R - Go Wild Erth May 23

Sound Healer - Carly Seller

Her soul purpose is to connect curious souls to their inner wisdom and creative essence through sound healing, reiki, yoga, and creativity. Weaving together these different modalities, she creates playful and restful experiences that offer space for self-inquiry and expression.

— Caroline S - Go Wild Nov 2021
So many thanks Shaun and Polly. What I needed was exactly what you gave me..an opportunity to stop having to make decisions for a while and to take on a few new ways of thinking, eating, moving and connecting with new people that I will absorb into my daily life from right now.
— Sarah W - Go Wild Sept 2021

““We had such a fantastic time, and it was the perfect way to start the NY and the next chapter in our lives””
— Sam Cox - Go Wild Jan 2020
Go Wild retreat combines just the right balance of outdoor activities, yoga and socialising. To complete this perfect arrangement is the beautiful location and surroundings of Tilton House, with its historical legacy and picturesque gardens. Highly recommended and I’m looking forward to visiting again!
— Veronica - Go Wild June 2021”
From start to finish I absolutely loved my Go Wild Retreat. From the idyllic setting to the incredible food, to the diverse range of activities, everything was absolutely spot on. I felt very at home and comfortable straight away; I had never been on a retreat before and this was such a lovely experience for me and I loved every second.
— - Millie E - Go Wild 28th June 2021
This retreat was equally moving and inspiring. The yoga, the many other retreat activities, and the delicous meals were a gift for me. Life has been challenging and the retreat was a pocket of time when everything else went away. It was a rare moment in which I was truly immersed in the here and now. And that doesn’t seem to happen much these days. I made four new friends, too - a windfall given last year’s lockdown.
