GO WILD FOR YOUR HEALTH RETREATS…

THE GUARDIAN:-& THE TIMES
BEST NEW EUROPEAN TRIPS FOR 2024 - ETHICAL & GREENER TRAVEL - THE GUARDIAN
Another of our slightly shorter retreats, spread over 4 days on the mystical Cornwall coast., and the key aim is for you to nurture your nervous system, to enjoy good health and find the tools to create enduring well-being.
It’s time to press pause on the chores, delegate the dog walks, pop ‘out of office’on the emails because we’ve designed a retreat for you that will soothe your nervous system and re-ignite the brilliant spark within you!
We’ve collaborated with a team of wellness experts to deliver you from frazzled to feeling wondrous!
Our retreat venue is a Jacobean Manor with sumptuous interiors, surrounded by a tidal river which breathes in and out twice daily, shifting both light and energy.
With this as our energetic landscape holding us, we use its uplifting magic, combine the retreat with intentional movement; stretching yoga in an atmospheric candlelit warm chapel, walking across the jaw dropping South West coastal path and across the open moorland and Tors on Dartmoor.
We drop into wild swimming spots to refresh us whilst enjoying time with fellow retreaters or adventurers!
Food is so important to us and we’re nourished by food grown either on site or locally, taking advantage of the incredible foodie chef talent prevalent in Cornwall and served to you at your table- no need to lift a finger!
We don’t expect you to sit in a stuffy studio for the bulk of your retreat, instead we mix up the potent power of movement with the delight and freedom you feel when in wide landscapes with long views!
Of course there’s also downtime time scheduled for you to find the valuable space you need with breathwork, sound healing and massage and plenty of spaces to read relax or walk solo.
In short we’ve created a safe space in Nature for you to find the peace, space to breathe into your own bodies and anchor yourself to feel into the transformation on offer.
Find out why this retreat is endorsed by @theguardian @thetimes and why we have built a community of loyal returnees!
We’ve curated events using the healing power of nature
The promise here is that you you will have a full immersion into nature, whilst living in stylish and comfortable interiors of a Jacobean Manor House situated on a peninsula almost surrounded by the tidal River Lynher (report on importance of being in blue spaces -HERE.). Its a peaceful retreat for wildlife and busy people. The team at Department of Wellbeing are down to earth, and all highly qualified in their area of expertise. Not only is Erth their venue, it is also their home - the place they chose intentionally to run retreat from… A place where you are making an ethnical choice to retreat too - one, with the cleanest of air…
Polly & Shaun have run retreats daily for 16 years, and understand. the alchemical balance, that mindset, fun and movement play, in achieving and sustaining your greatest potential for wellbeing and longevity. The retreats are curated to include a high dose of inspiration, as the land at base is farmed using regenerative farming techniques, and there is a nod to us all respecting mother nature and its awesome offerings, as we all adventure under her spell.
This is more than a retreat, this is a recalibration of your lifestyle and is designed to individually support you as you move towards your highest self.
LOCATION:
Your home for your retreat is Erth Barton. A Jacobean House of historical mystery, its built of stone and granite with mullion windows, on the grounds there is even a 12th Century chapel, within a courtyard setting and in the neighbouring paddocks, we have a yurt, a cabin and a couple of shepherds huts.
Erth Barton sits in an exciting area of Cornwall, where the 4 mile stretch of beach at Whitsand Bay is just a short drive away. Twenty minutes to the east is Dartmoor National Park, and frames the horizon here at Erth. Cornish coastal towns of Cawsand & Kingsand sit elegantly on Rame Head (AONB) peninsula a beautiful landscape of tidal creeks and sandy beaches - known as Cornwall’s forgotten south east corner….
Erth Barton is located just over the Devon/ Cornwall border easily accessible from the A38. Erth is sitting on its own peninsula - there are no public footpaths here, only private walks - the paths around the peninsula are surrounded by ancient oaks, ferns , blackberry bushes, lichen and moss. Did you know lichen grows in the cleanest of air ?
The River Lynher snakes its way through an Oak woodland, fringing the green tidal water which swallows the land as the tide moves the volume of water in and out daily. Mesmerising. There are a few secret beaches to swim the Lynher from and if lucky, swimming on a warm night, you will see the phosphorescence as your hands move through the water.
This place is wild.
The invitation here is to deepen your connection with Nature and the luxury here is to breathe clear air and experience clean water. Lichen cover many of the trees and woodland, and hang from branches as if suspended in air.
The benefits of blue spaces on our wellbeing are HERE and for a few days you will live this life.
The house sits on land farmed using regenerative farming, so it’s safe to breath deeply and swim freely in the knowledge that all humans are on the peninsula are working in harmony with Mother nature. The wildlife is astounding, deer roam here, and make sure you bring binoculars to enjoy the birdlife, such as falcons, hawks, herons, egrets, Canada geese, skylarks on top of the hill and swallows that live in the barns here.
There is huge drive to keep this land wild, as we endeavour to live plastic free and work to reduce our consumables, using sensitive sustainability which showcases the hyper-local spirit of this area of Cornwall. There are plans to grow food here on site and as the neighbours are soil experts, Erth Farmer, left overs are composted so that little has to leave site.
Intimate and independently run, with 6 rooms in the main house, all furnished differently with a personal touch from Polly & Shaun, who are friendly and intuitive hosts, and behind the huge success of Tilton House in Sussex, a retreat venue they ran in Bloomsbury Country for 16 years. They believe, modern luxury is about living in harmony with the natural surroundings. Of course you can expect the usual high-thread count, low lighting, soft furnishings, luxurious and creative details that you would expect from two former film makers, furnishing the house with eco conscience and sustainable materials and antiques, but the real luxury here is the piece of mind, a lack of road noise, or flight paths and everything poised intentionally for your wellbeing.
2024 PROGRAMME
The Go WILD programme has been loved by both clients and the press since 2019, when we first gathered our group of experts to teach our wellbeing community, the importance of sustaining a good level of health and fitness which has evolved and become central to our lives and wellness.
We offer strategic systems of support to optimise your wellbeing.
On arrival, we follow a schedule of events held mainly in nature to reset body and mind and recalibrate your nutritional intake by offering delicious menus to fortify your busy lifestyle.
Different beliefs and values that we have accrued along the way may have resulted in unconscious habits. Taking the opportunity to shine a light on these will cleanse both mind and body so we can strengthen our resolve and our WHY to achieve better results daily more aligned with our goals.. For example, creating awareness around our own mental and physical body rhythm and how best we can use certain times of the day to either stimulate movement or receive nurturing calm.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The gateway to our Go WILD retreats is always through the breath, and so after our arrival talk we will enjoy a breath work session and how best to integrate the practice over the following few days and various activities. We hope to expand your energy levels with grounding long hikes either over Dartmoor, or along the South West Coastal Path, in Cornwall. Being immersed in nature and wild landscapes will offer plenty of uplift and inspiration to become both stimulated and nurtured, and for minds and bodies to understand the difference in these opposing feelings. This requires a new awareness of discipline and clarity, which we will also learn to recognise during our programme.

OUR TRIBE
Breathwork:- Tate Gronow
Breathwork has been the only healing modality to immediately alter my state of mind and body and is something that I use both therapeutically and functionally in everyday life. I was hooked from the moment I finished my first session after feeling like I’d been transported so deeply into my body and further away from the stresses of the present.
The breathe is a bridge between the scientific and spiritual and I aim to make the sometimes more elusive areas of body and mind work feel accessible, practical and gentle. I’m passionate about integrating simple yet effective healing practices into our busy lives. Breathwork is a key pillar in reaching optimum physical and emotional health alongside nature, human connection, food, sleep and movement.
